Dr. Clay Cockrill
Dr. Clay Cockrill opened Pine Grove Veterinary Clinic in March 2000. During the preceding four years, he worked as a general practitioner in two other practices in Amador County. He also worked one year in a small animal practice in Orange County, California, prior to moving to Amador County. Dr. Clay’s primary interests are dermatology, internal medicine, and soft-tissue surgery. He graduated with honors in veterinary medicine from Texas A&M University in 1996. Dr. Clay lives with his wife, Sophie Starostina, in Pine Grove, California. They have two dogs, Chuda, a one-eyed, eager-to-please border collie; and pitbull Adda, who can open almost any door. They also have a cat, Britches, who leads a double-life: feral huntress (when the weather is good) and pathetic refugee (when it is not so good). They also provide home to eight pampered hens. Clay and Sophie are deeply committed to environmental issues and enjoy hiking, camping, bird-watching and kayaking in their spare time. Fly-fishing is an unrealized dream.
